Are you promoting yourself, or another product, and looking for a unique way to get some exposure? Light-up clothing will make everyone look at you - here's your chance to tell them who you are.
This page presents an overview of methods that can be used to create names and logos, with some suggestions to help you select the option that is best suited for your design and budget. Please follow the links below for more detailed information about the examples shown.
custom embroidery with backlighting
One of our preferred methods, an embroidered design with sheer fabric areas can act as a stencil when it is backlit by LEDs or EL wire.
scrolling LED text
This is one of the most-requested features, but it is also the most expensive option, due to the complexity of the control circuits and the high number of LEDs required.
| Scrolling
messages and other patterns can be displayed on this block
character design, which is based on a series of 5x7 LED arrays. |
|
| A similar effect is obtained with this array of about 300 individual white LEDs, wrapped around the cuff of a knit cap. Similar displays can be mounted on other surfaces. Please see this page for more information. |
|
| In
collaboration with Ingo Maurer, we have also created scrolling messages
on flex boards with surface mount LEDs, as shown on this
page. |
fixed LED text
The LEDs spelling "FLYERMAN" on the back of this jacket are fixed in place, but can be illuminated in a variety of animation patterns. This option uses fewer lights than a scrolling message board, typically 10 lights per character. |

Electroluminescent (EL) wire is available in many colors, and is useful for creating outlined logos and lettering. The example shown here is mounted on the back of a smoking jacket.

EL wire can also be animated, as shown in this framed "coat check" sign.
Flat EL panels can also be cut to various shapes, to form multi-color logos such as the one shown here (bright view, dark view, and animated view).

In these examples, the name and the star-shaped patch are illuminated with a combination of EL wire outlines and blinking LEDs.
A light-up patch offers a convenient method for adding your name to a finished garment. The patch can be permanently sewn in place, or mounted in a detachable fashion, such as by velcro. This can be useful for applications where frequent washing is needed.

Patches can be illuminated with LEDs, or with EL wire, as shown on the sides of Burghman's helmet. Patches are discussed in more detail on this page.
